Winner of the "Most Sustainable Enterprise" and "Energy Efficiency Star" titles Schaeffler Committed to Developing Green Positive Energy

2014-03-07 | Shanghai

Shanghai, February 11, 2014 Schaeffler, a world renowned supplier of automotive and industrial products, was recently awarded the Most Sustainable Enterprise and Energy Efficiency Star titles in the Chinese market, demonstrating the company's outstanding contribution to green and sustainable development.

"China is currently in the process of ‘upgrading’ its economy by paying more attention to energy efficiency," said Marcel Siedentopf, Director Industrial Engineering for Schaeffler Greater China. "Schaeffler's Taicang production base is implementing an energy efficiency transformation scheme that has reduced its annual carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 3,400 tons — equivalent to burning over1,200 tons less standard coal — and has saved the business in excess of RMB 6 million every year."

Green energy schemes such as this have led to Schaeffler being recently named the 2013 Most Sustainable Enterprise by the China Urban Economic Sustainable Development Committee (CUESDC), and awarded the Energy Efficiency Star by Suzhou Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

Dr. Zhang Yilin, Managing Director and Regional CEO of Schaeffler Greater China, said that energy consumption is an inevitable part of production processes for manufacturers, but that Schaeffler is committed to minimizing energy consumption through a variety of advanced energy saving technologies, in order to create a green and sustainable environment for its employees and the community.

A spokesperson for CUESDC, which organizes the Most Sustainable Enterprise award, said that Schaeffler stood out from nearly one hundred high-performing sustainable enterprises by showing that it had fully implemented the concepts of "low-carbon strategy, innovation strength, application, social responsibility, and sustainability".

Currently, each Schaeffler production base operates strictly in accordance with international standards and is certified to ISO 14001 for environmental management systems and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety, as well as holding eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) certification.

Dr. Zhang Yilin said that enterprises are the backbone of social and economic development, and that responsible enterprises are a source of positive energy that promotes the development of business. Schaeffler is willing to fulfill its social responsibilities as an enterprise by offering efficient, green, high-quality products and services, and by implementing sustainable development initiatives.
